Elias develops feelings for his new neighbor Alexander
He soon realizes that he is falling in love for the first time.. Expectations were high for this film – and man, wow, it not only delivered, it did it with style! Beautiful cinematography, enjoyable music, a wonderful story that the viewer (especially LGBTQ people) could relate to.
Real life, unfortunately, is not like that
The struggles of the boy (Elias) were masterfully portrayed, and the happy ending was excellent – it’s good to see a film that puts more emphasis on the positive side of the subject. However, this is my only criticism of the film (which is why it is 'only' 10/9) – I find it overly optimistic. A little more screen time could have been devoted to some drama about bullying, or rejection, because let’s face it, there are always haters in real life.
However, this is a minor issue
Yes, there were minor hints of that in the film here and there, but a few more scenes about the negative sides should have been inserted. This could have made Elias’ fears more understandable. The end result was an almost dreamlike script.
One that doesn’t really pull you out of your immersion at all
(I just felt like explaining the 9 stars) We also have to talk about how great the cast was! The actors played their roles brilliantly – even the young ones, so it really is a let down. Now stop wasting your time reading my review, go and see it instead!
