In New York City, Manhattan, these are a series of numbered "Avenues" which are crisscrossed by smaller numbered streets. I watched this out of curiosity, without much expectation, just surprised to see Stallone on the show. You can feel the tension in the scenes, it’s also pretty realistic as far as the plot would go. I wouldn’t say it’s humorous, but there are some funny scenes that stem from Dwight (Stallone) being released from a 25-year prison sentence and not fully integrated into the modern world; so I assume the sudden transition will cause some interesting hiccups for him, but also for us.
It was funny while it lasted
I’m glad someone told him how to use Uber. It’s a pretty clever script, but not in a witty way that makes for a good introduction. Of course, Stallone is very much represented, but the rest of the cast seems pretty good. The show literally feels like you took gangsters written for a movie from the early 90s and just threw them in 2022, creating a good mix of humor and violence.
I love how it feels sometimes in this western, still being a mafia thing
I thought it was going to be just a throwaway show like some of Stallion’s recent movies; mostly just relying on his name and performances, but Taylor Sheridan does a good job here of writing a performance worthy of Stallone. I think it’s going to be fun to watch the macho Stallone build a criminal empire from scratch in the middle of nowhere in Tulsa. I think the show could go under the radar, then get talked about later with people asking how they never caught on to it before, because I haven’t seen that many Paramount commercials. I went in with no high hopes, but if the premiere is anything to go by, it could be really fun to watch.
If it continues like this, great; if it gets better, that’ll be fantastic
I’ll add a review after a few episodes air and update if anything changes drastically in the show. Check out our recap of "Yellowstone" Season 5, Part 2, "Squid Game" Season 2, and other most anticipated new and returning series coming to TV and streaming.
